Brutally Honest Oscar Predictions: Short & To The Point

Here’s our first short and to the point ballot of films we feel deserve to win tonight and the eventual films that will take away their glory.

Enjoy!

BEST PICTURE
Deserves to Win: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Nothing else needs to be said.
Mad max 1
Will Win: The Revenant, but don’t count out The Big Short

BEST DIRECTOR
Deserves to Win
: George Miller: Mad Max: Fury Road. The fact that he went from Happy Feet 2 to Fury Road is one of the best feats in years.
Mad Max 2
Will Win: Alejandro Gonzalez Innauritu: The Revenant

BEST ACTOR
Deserves to Win:
Leonardo DiCaprio: The Revenant (Yes it wasn’t his best, but he does his best work speaking a lot of lines and sadly we aren’t used to seeing him grunt and emote his way through a performance.)

Will Win:  Leonardo DiCaprio: The Revenant

BEST ACTRESS
Deserves to Win: Charlotte Rampling: 45 Years.
She was nothing short of amazing and the best subtle performance of the year.

Will Win: Brie Larson: Room.  I enjoyed her work here, but she was sadly overshadowed by the great Rampling.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Deserves to Win: Sylvester Stallone: Creed.
He proved not only does he still have the chops we thought he lost so long ago, but he brings his wonderful character full circle.

Will Win: Sylvester Stallone: Creed

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Deserves to Win: Jennifer Jason Leigh: The Hateful Eight.
The second time I saw this film, all of her nuances and all of her ferocity made me a believer in how amazing this actress is.

Will Win: Alicia Vikander: The Danish Girl. Great performance in a film that was unworthy of her talent.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Deserves to Win:
Inside Out. Hands down one of the most emotional and imaginative films of the year.

INSIDE OUT

Will Win: Inside Out. I know a lot of people think Spotlight has it in the bag, but I’m going with my gut on this one.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Deserves to Win: The Big Short.
This film is so important and so full of insight, that this one deserves to take home the Gold.
Screen Shot 2015-12-24 at 5.32.34 PM
Will Win: The Big Short

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Deserves to Win Inside Out.  One of Pixar’s best and proof that they have plenty of worthy stories left to tell.  Even though the story does borrow many elements from Toy Story.

Will Win: Inside Out.

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
Deserves to Win: Son of Saul. Many of my friends know my disdain for the director, but I cannot deny the fact that he made something truly amazing here.
SS2
Will Win: Son of Saul . Don’t be surprised when the director walks upstage and tries to look surprised.

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
Deserves to Win: Amy.
One of the most heartbreaking films of last year and my second favorite film of 2015. Every other doc didn’t come close to this one in my opinion.

Will Win: Amy

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Deserves To Win: Carol.
Ed Lachman’s cinematography for this film makes me hate him with jealousy and one of the best uses of 16mm in years.
Carol 1
Will Win: The Revenant. Sigh, but don’t count out Sicario. Just kidding, they aren’t going to give it to Roger Deakins.

BEST FILM EDITING
Deserves to Win: The Big Short

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN
Deserves To Win: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.
